Fixed appliances, sometimes called "bracketts" cannot be removed by the patient himself. In periodic sessions the dentist inspects the brackets and, if necessary, realigns them to ensure fast and proper treatment progress.
Very easly food stuff sticks to the teeth and bracket and the patient has to ensure a proper hygienic status.
After the brackets are removed, the final treatment requires to wear a removeable appliances (retention plate or positioner) to secure the actual treatment status. If this appliances is not worn sufficiently, a teeth displavement will arise again, the treatment was useless.
